Federation, first courts and fastest-growing scene in West Africa

Padel in Côte d'Ivoire is administered by the Commission Padel of the Fédération Ivoirienne de Tennis (FIT), which joined the FIP in 2025. Dr. Athanase Kakou heads the padel commission with an ambition to make Côte d'Ivoire the padel hub of West Africa. The first courts opened at Padel Magic inside the Central Tennis Club at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire complex in Cocody, Abidjan, around 2022. Padelta, which opened in 2024 in Cocody Danga with 5 FIP-certified indoor courts, is now the largest indoor padel facility in Abidjan.

FIP Gold and continental showcase

Côte d'Ivoire rose rapidly to international prominence as a padel host. FIP-sanctioned events began in 2024 and have grown year-on-year: a FIP Bronze in May 2025 at Padelta drew 98 players from 25 countries, and a FIP Silver series followed later that year at Padel Magic. In June 2026, Padelta hosted the FIP Gold Abidjan, the first FIP Gold-level tournament held on the African continent, with 250 players from 15 nationalities and a prize pool of 50,000 euros. The country's padel community is estimated at more than 20,000 amateur players.

Clubs, players and development

Three main clubs serve Abidjan's padel scene: Padel Magic in Cocody (4 match courts and 2 practice courts in open-air FIP-standard format), Padelta in Cocody Danga (5 indoor courts plus a café), and CNTIG on La Corniche with 4 match courts and 5 practice courts. No Ivorian national currently holds FIP ranking points, and the competitive field at local tournaments is primarily made up of Spanish, South American, Portuguese, Italian and French players. The FIP Promises Abidjan series, launched in July 2026, is aimed at developing the next generation of local competitive players.
