First commercial courts and Africa Padel's arrival

Cape Town was among the first cities in South Africa to open a dedicated commercial padel facility. Action Padel SA, co-founded by Katherine Hartmann and Brit King, opened courts at Century City adjacent to Canal Walk in October 2020. Africa Padel followed with its first Cape Town location at Camps Bay in May 2021, bringing international investment and a multi-site expansion strategy. By 2026 the city had approximately 24 padel venues with around 26 indoor courts and 8 outdoor courts across the metropolitan area.

Major venues across the city

Africa Padel operates 3 large venues in Cape Town: Claremont with 9 courts near Cavendish Square, V&A Waterfront with 5 courts and views of Table Mountain, and Camps Bay with 5 courts in a mixed indoor and outdoor format. Arturf Padel Arena in Paarden Eiland has 6 courts, including 2 outdoor and 4 indoor, and is described by FIP as the largest facility dedicated to padel in South Africa. Aura Padel Club in Montague Gardens and Virgin Active Padel EPICENTRE each operate 5 indoor courts.

FIP events and the African continental finals

The FIP Promises Cape Town was held 27-29 March 2026 at PadelX in Somerset West. A more significant milestone arrives later in 2026: the FIP Promises Continental Finals Africa on 18-20 December 2026 at Arturf Padel Arena in Paarden Eiland, the inaugural continental finals for Africa, with competitors in 4 youth categories (Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18). Padel4Good, a charity padel organisation, has run sold-out events in Cape Town, including one that filled within 16 minutes.
