First courts and federation formation

Padel New Zealand was founded in 2020 but the country's first court did not open until 28 October 2023, when Kiwi Padel, founded by Spanish entrepreneur Diego Cueto, opened at Riverside Sports Club, Mount Wellington, Auckland in partnership with Spanish court manufacturer Portico Sport. The federation joined the FIP in 2023 and is recognised by Sport NZ. By mid-2026, New Zealand had 28 to 30 courts across 10 or more clubs in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Nelson.

Celebrity investors and indoor expansion

Commercial growth accelerated after Pacific Padel, a multi-venue indoor operator, recruited cricket icons Kane Williamson and Stephen Fleming as investors. The Padel Club NZ app grew from 500 to around 2,400 registered users in nine months. Pacific Padel Albany in Auckland became New Zealand's first indoor padel club when it opened in January 2025 with 4 courts, and Pacific Padel Papamoa opened in March 2025 as the country's first multi-court standalone outdoor venue in the Bay of Plenty.

National tour and competitive pathway

The inaugural Padel New Zealand Tour in 2025 ran across three legs in Tauranga in April, Wellington in July and Auckland in November, awarding national ranking points under a two-tier competition framework. No FIP-sanctioned international event has been held in New Zealand, and no New Zealand player appears in the FIP world rankings. The country's progression from its first court in October 2023 to an organised national tour in under 2 years reflects one of the fastest development timelines in world padel.
