Origins, growth and the Moscow scene

Padel was introduced to Russia by Christian Tarruella, a Spanish coach and player who arrived in Moscow around 2013 and built the first 2 courts in the southern suburbs of the city. By 2025, the Russian market had an estimated 200 courts across 29 clubs in 15 or more cities. SkyPadel at Afimall City in the Moscow City tower complex opened on 2 February 2025 with 6 courts under a glass dome, recording more than 90,000 visitors in its first months and bringing padel directly into Russia's largest commercial real estate complex.

Federation and key venues

The Russian Padel Federation (Федерация падела России), known by its acronym FPR, was formed informally around 2017 and achieved Ministry of Sports accreditation in 2022, with Alexey Zolotarev as president and Alexey Sorokin as general director. UNIPADEL is Moscow's flagship dedicated padel complex with 9 courts including 7 panoramic courts, 1 super-panoramic court and 1 singles court. Plans for a second, larger UNIPADEL complex were announced after the first reached capacity. The Federation Padel Rus Center in Moscow serves as the federation-linked flagship venue.

International events, the 2022 ban and domestic circuit

Russia hosted 1 confirmed FIP-sanctioned international tournament before 2022: an International Padel Tournament from 21 to 26 October 2021 in Moscow with 16 players per draw. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in March 2022, the FIP cancelled 4 scheduled events in Russia and barred the country from FIP Tour competitions in accordance with IOC recommendations. Russia's domestic circuit, which includes an annual national championship from 2023, continues to develop independently. Russian players may also compete internationally through non-Russian federations.
